Once I started packing up the things at our site, the kids began to wake up and help me. We grabbed some bagels and headed to the train with plenty of time to spare. The difference in the weekend vs. the weekday commuter train traffic was crazy!
We made it to the theater about 20 minutes early so the kids added some fish to the art display currently hanging in the lobby. After we were seated in the small theater the cast came out and warmed up the kids for a little while. The actress who was talking to my kids was wonderful and helped them instantly come out of their shells.
This was an audience participation kind of show with adults and kids helping out with the sound effects. And this play definitely needed sound effects with the huge storm in the beginning! The cast did an outstanding job telling the story and keeping even the smallest kid's attention.
They also took the time to let everyone ask questions and get together for the obligatory pictures. This was a definite favorite of the trip for all of us for sure! Brayden even said he wanted to see the full version with all the boring stuff the cast said they took out - now that's impressive!
We said goodbye to Washington D.C. as we rode the train back to our car and got on our way to the next stop. After about 20 minutes we were already in Virginia again!
Our route actually took us right by the Pentagon. We're probably on some kind of watch list now because the kids just had to take pictures of the building as we drove by.
I was glad to get back to Trader Joe's in Virginia so we stocked up for the next few days. The cashier loved seeing our bags from New York and after she heard the kids tell about where we'd been she had to give us a bag from Virginia too!
All the mouths of the kids dropped open as we pulled into the campground as we were greeted first by a nice, very refreshing looking pool. After we checked in we forgot setting up our tents and headed straight for a little water therapy. These 96 degree temperatures are for the birds! The water was chilly as we were having some cool nights so it felt wonderful! The slid down the smallest slide I've ever seen about 514 times and we played the pool version of jail until our toes were raisins.
After we set up the tents the kids raced over to the beach volleyball court to continue their Olympic games while I cooked some veggie burgers for dinner. Our neighbors were a little too close for comfort for me but they had a cat along with them so the kids enjoyed watching her constantly. Laney and I jumped on the dishes and we drove back up to the front of the park to the playground area. While I edited pictures the kids played all around the equipment and begged me to take some pictures as it was getting dark.
I noticed the sunset behind me so of course I had to walk over to the water for a few shots. When we got back to the tent Laney said they'd had the perfect amount of play time today that would knock them out when we crawled in the tent. I'd say that's a good end to a day!
