We decided this morning that we would reluctantly pack up and leave the cabin even though we had one more day in Lancaster. We would be at a bonfire party for Dave and were thinking the drive back out wouldn't be a good idea. This was definitely the most difficult packing up I'd experienced. I'm very thankful Dave was there to help me and we had about 2 hours to completely pack up. We had several more bags and one more body to fit into the van as well, so I had to do some rearranging to make it relatively comfortable for everyone. The rain had not stopped as we'd hoped so we had to hike our stuff up and down to the car to be able to pack up.
Once we got back into Lancaster, we headed to Mount Pleasant to walk up and take in a view of the city. On our way up we greeted by three small, happy dogs and the girls were instantly smitten. I think Dave might still be recovering from not having us around for a month as he mentioned perhaps we could get three puppies - one for each child. That man is crazy.
Mount Pleasant was a very short walk up a nice path to a beautiful view of the surrounding city. We didn't stay too long as the kids were making us more nervous than usual climbing and jumping on all the rocks and there was a dark cloud headed right for us. Of course there is. Within seconds of us reaching the car the rain started. Thank you rain, for waiting until we were in the car.
Check out that OU gear!!
We met a little caterpillar on our way off the top and the girls just HAD to pet him. They wanted to give him a hug and a kiss too but settled for blowing him a kiss. Poor little guy.
We made it to Dan's house and relaxed with some Olympic coverage. A few minutes after the rain stopped the kids headed for the pool. It was chilly but one they got used to it, that was where they spent most of the day. Dave made us some fish tacos and we had a bunch of time to visit with everyone.
Later that night was the party for Dave. One of his best friends from school invited all the gang over for a bonfire, snacks, and beer. The weather was nice and very cool - perfect for a bonfire! Most everyone hadn't seen each other in years, many as much as 15 like Dave. The kids had an absolute blast playing with all the older kids, especially being relatively unsupervised. They got to experience the famous Fat Cat's Pizza and have cucumber sandwiches for the first time too. Oh and I can't forget smores - all the kids favorite, especially Laney's.
The kids were excited to find out we would be staying the night in the basement of our gracious host! Once it got late, we put them on air matresses and continued our time with the adults. Around 2:30, Dave and I collapsed downstairs with the kids. Five blankets later, I got initiated into just how cold basements can be!
